Casting Call: "PADLOCK," a short film penned and directed by Patrick Linehan, is set to be filmed in Brooklyn, NY.

BACKGROUND: Inspired by true events from the summer of 2024 when the NYPD initiated Operation Padlock, closing and padlocking 1600 smoke shops across NYC suspected of unlicensed cannabis sales.

LOGLINE: In a race against time, a clever teenager scours the neighborhood for bolt cutters to rescue three individuals—a native New Yorker, a newcomer, and an immigrant—trapped inside the local smoke shop.

We are seeking actors for four supporting roles. These characters are vital to the community where our protagonist’s journey unfolds, each possessing unique perspectives and personalities. Actors with strong connections to New York City are highly encouraged to apply.

AUDITIONS: First round is self-tape. Sides will be sent to selected submissions. Callbacks, if needed, will be held in person in Brooklyn.

RATE: $200/day per performer. Meals provided on set. Copy of the finished film and credit provided to all cast.

Male, 50s to 60s. Grew up on this block back when the gangs ran it, and he has the history to prove it. He married here and raised a family here, and now the kids are grown and gone and the marriage is over. He hates what the neighborhood has turned into and knows there is not one thing he can do about it, which is its own kind of grief. One of three people locked inside the smoke shop when the police padlock the door, and the one least willing to admit he needs help getting out. Most of this role plays out in a single confined location opposite two other actors, so we are looking for someone strong with sustained scene work, capable of real menace and real tenderness in the same breath. Brooklyn or wider NYC roots a plus.
