Casting Call: "PADLOCK," a short film penned and directed by Patrick Linehan, is set to be filmed in Brooklyn, NY.

BACKGROUND: Inspired by true events from the summer of 2024 when the NYPD initiated Operation Padlock, closing and padlocking 1600 smoke shops across NYC suspected of unlicensed cannabis sales.

LOGLINE: In a race against time, a clever teenager scours the neighborhood for bolt cutters to rescue three individuals—a native New Yorker, a newcomer, and an immigrant—trapped inside the local smoke shop.

We are seeking actors for four supporting roles. These characters are vital to the community where our protagonist’s journey unfolds, each possessing unique perspectives and personalities. Actors with strong connections to New York City are highly encouraged to apply.

AUDITIONS: First round is self-tape. Sides will be sent to selected submissions. Callbacks, if needed, will be held in person in Brooklyn.

RATE: $200/day per performer. Meals provided on set. Copy of the finished film and credit provided to all cast.

Female, 70s to 80s. A longtime member of the block and a grandmother of sorts to half the neighborhood, our lead included. Her age keeps her in her fourth-floor walkup most days, but she is nobody's shut-in; she watches the street from her window and still wants to be in the middle of things. When our lead gets stuck, Carrie is the one who stops him, pulls him into her orbit, and hands him a walkie talkie so she can help from upstairs. Warmth and stubbornness in equal measure. We are looking for an actor who can carry real authority and mischief in a mostly seated, mostly verbal performance. Much of her work is voice-only over the walkie talkie, so vocal presence matters. Brooklyn or wider NYC roots a plus.
