Outskirts is a brown-british comedy-drama, an experience of youth and adolescence in 2008. Taghavi’s narrative debut encompasses his life through the prism of his teenage years. Set in a small town of Potters Bar, Hertfordshire (UK). Where the number one fried chicken shop is at the heart of the town and bossman’s son, Mania and his friends utilize it as a base in their day to day. A portrait of teenage boys growing inside a glided cage, in search of themselves and how they identify as a collective. Their lifestyle influenced by hip-hop culture and UK Grime coming from London. Which feels like a holiday when they visit the city for Mania’s recording studio session in Tottenham and opens their eyes to two different worlds. A coming-of-age film where Mania and his eldest brother Mal grow up under the conditions of a Christian and Muslim household.

Outskirts explores brotherhood through blood and friendships. Giving a musical slice of what was once the small-town nightlife culture to multiple generations and defining the musical fabric of Potters Bar at one moment in time.

On screen age 15. Middle Eastern or South Asian, Brown British. Clean-shaven, black hair, 6ft, thick eyebrows.

Mania struggles to express himself freely in the glided cage of his small hometown through adolescence. He wants to create a space where he can be heard which is only by the walls of his teenage bedroom.

Writing lyrics and rapping Hip-hop and UK Grime is a way to free himself under the conditions of his outer-city lifestyle.

Mania is a hustler, making money in multiple streams. Working with Zed at the fried chicken shop, selling mix CDs and Ralph Lauren polo shirts.

He wants to progress further than just speaking to his schoolgirl crush on MSN but is shy and hasn't grown his confidence. Mania desperately wants to be as cool as his brother Mal.

Mania is the plug to free fried chicken for his friends. Mania has a relationship with Zed, Elmo and Packalous outside the friendship group.

Salary

Equity Minimum agreement at £120 per day for a 10 plus 1 working day (8 plus 1 if actor is below 18).
