Set against a backdrop of magical realism in Accra, this story follows a British-Ghanaian woman who returns after a decade to attend the "death party" her ailing grandfather hosts for himself. Throughout one day of festivities, she must confront the secret that drove her away and the family's enduring silence. Intertwined with Ga folklore and ancestral spirits, this intimate drama explores themes of memory, shame, and the journey back home. - Dates

Danielle returns to Accra after a ten-year absence for her beloved grandfather's living wake — a "death party" he has thrown for himself. Outwardly she is all polish: designer sunglasses, red lips, poise and control. Underneath is a woman who has spent a decade in exile from her own family, carrying a secret. As a girl she was the awkward outsider — a London kid who didn't speak her language, didn't eat the food, broke out in rashes at the beach — who slowly, joyfully fell in love with Ghana and with a local boy, Maleek. At nineteen, she decided never to return to ghana again. The present-day story is her reckoning: with her sister, with the man who hurt her, with a culture of silence, and with her own right to call this place home.
