Casting "Darling, I Think I’m Turning Into a Chicken," a darkly comic new play about generational trauma and transformation.
Florence has everything she’s ever wanted: a fiancée, a thriving career, and a perfect home. But when she starts to grow feathers, her carefully constructed life begins to unravel. As the transformation worsens and threatens to kill her, Florence discovers she’s not alone: her estranged family are changing too. To survive, she must confront the past she’s spent a lifetime avoiding.
Blending new writing with choreographed movement and ensemble physical theatre, the piece moves between realism and absurdism. Using the image of the chicken, fragile yet descended from the T-Rex, the play explores how trauma is carried in the body, and what happens when it is left unspoken across generations. Urgent, surreal and darkly funny, Darling, I Think I’m Turning Into a Chicken asks what it takes to break cycles of inheritance—and whether healing is ever truly possible. - Dates

Florence’s doctor, male-presenting, around fifties. Same actor plays the Doctor and Mark. Comedic, fumbling, old-fashioned, lively. The Doctor represents all of those problematic assumptions of women’s health that have plagued the healthcare industry. To him, women are mysterious creatures who have mysterious “female issues” that always boil down to either pregnancy, periods or hormones. He isn’t malicious or hostile, but his attempts at helping Florence through her illness are not very effective or up-to-date either. He is led by his ego and status as a doctor, but remains unaware of human need as tasks become pragmatic rather than considerate of emotional effects, although underneath it, there is also some care.
“With new research on the female body, they can fix every issue in a woman's life in just one pill. With only a small percentage leading to cases of hysterical doom.” - Salary
