What Remains - Short Film

Shooting in Essex on location. 1 day, expenses covered.

Two people, bound by an unnamed loss, move from the claustrophobic intimacy of a caravan into an open landscape, where grief gives way to a raw, physical duet of distance, dependence and connection.

The film explores grief through intimacy, distance and physical connection, focusing less on what has happened and more on how loss changes the space between two people. Their undefined relationship and the subtle traces of a child keep the cause of their grief ambiguous, while the movement becomes a physical expression of tenderness, anger, dependence and the need to hold onto one another.

Content
Male Leads, playing age 29–38. Strong, masculine, lived-in faces. Eastern European, North African, Mediterranean or ethnically ambiguous. Dark or shaved hair, stubble, physical presence. Not polished or conventionally model-like. Characterful, emotionally exposed and slightly unexpected. Must feel equally capable of aggression and tenderness.

This is a dialogue-free, heavily performance-led short, so we are looking for actors with strong screen presence, emotional restraint and the ability to move naturally through a wide range of feeling, from contained grief and crying to warmth, laughter and physical release. The two characters share an undefined but deeply intimate relationship, with the film moving between silence, closeness, distance and moments of emotional collapse.

Performers must be comfortable with close physical contact, embracing, holding and expressive movement. Dance training is not required, the movement should feel instinctive, loose and real rather than choreographed.
