Handsome, intense and slightly overprotective of his daughter. Mr. Harper has a little of that classic 90s movie dad energy. He loves Natalie deeply, takes meeting her boyfriend seriously and can make Chad nervous without even saying anything.
He is not mean or humorless. There is real warmth underneath the intensity, but Chad absolutely wants this man’s approval. Their first encounter, with Chad standing shirtless and wrapped in a blanket while Mr. Harper silently drops the pie, should feel like Chad’s absolute nightmare.

Then White Elephant lets us flip the dynamic. For all of Mr. Harper’s authority and intensity, he is completely out of his depth in the game. His wife and a room full of twenty somethings apparently share an entire cultural language he has missed. We want someone with real presence and intensity who also has fantastic deadpan reaction comedy.
