Motor Neurone's Disease Charity (Commercial)

Commercial (TV, Online, Still) Greater London Apply by 7th August 2026, 17:00
Content
Our protagonist is a former musical-theatre performer whose life and independence have been profoundly altered by Motor Neurone's Disease and she wants to share her story. This powerful script, documenting our prtoagonist's journey from living a vibrant life to her diagnosis and battle with MND is directed by the brilliant Ben Liam Jones. They are hoping to film parts of this in Theatre land, where our protagonist played Nancy in Oliver. Our protagonist can now only communicate with her eyes using eye gaze technology which the charity, amongst much else, support. It is a deeply moving portrait of everything MND can take away, while honouring the humour, spirit and identity that remain.

For almost the entire film, the camera represents our protagonist’s point of view. We see her hands and arms, but not her face, with her physical actions performed by body doubles throughout the POV sequences. The film begins with our protagonist at the height of her career and personal life... singing, dancing, falling in love and planning her wedding, before following the first signs that something is wrong, her diagnosis, the progression of MND, and her increasing reliance on her husband and assistive technology.

Roles Details

Title
PROTAGONIST BODY DOUBLE / ARMS
Content
Female, 35 years - 45 years

Throughout the film the audience experiences the story through our protagonist's eyes, meaning it is unlikely we will see her face, only her hands, arms and physical interactions with the world (she will wear a camera on her head) so we're looking for a performer with excellent physical awareness. She should be aware that the issue isn't with the muscles themselves, but with the communication between the brain and the muscles. Her brain is no longer able to send the signals telling her hand how to move or grip objects. Looking for someone who is able to sensitively chart the gradual physical progression of MND through subtle changes in movement. Experience in movement, dance or physical theatre would be advantageous.

SKILLED SINGER (WEST END MUSICAL LEAD STANDARD) IDEAL AS THERE ARE MOMENTS SHE SINGS THROUGHOUT THE SCRIPT. PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE ALSO DESIRABLE.
