Late 20s, Ghanaian, new to the UK. Butch/non-binary lesbian like her friends Rapta and Marta, with whom she shares a hostel as a refugee. Goes by ‘Gray’ (except when wrong-footed by a courteous Ghanaian cabbie). Gray is keen to show s/he has what it takes to seize new freedoms in raucous Brixton, but is afraid wrongdoing (eg fare-dodging) could see her booted out of the country, and wavers between boldness and fear. Avoids other Ghanaians, fearing homophobia and rejection.
