"Van Life," penned by Pinely, is a darkly satirical science fiction short film that delves into the lives of a family of van-life influencers who are determined to keep their son, Max, from growing up. As Max starts to exhibit his own individuality and age, impacting their online engagement, his parents opt to swap him out for younger iterations. This forces Max to reenact an idealized childhood for their audience.
The film tackles pertinent themes such as the portrayal and sharing of childhood on social media, personal identity, parental dominance, and the exploitation within family dynamics.
