The Concept
The Spy Who Came in from the Park is a new original musical inspired by a surreal footnote of history: the notorious North Korean dictator’s childhood visit to Tokyo Disneyland on a forged identity. However, rather than a burlesque legend of a "Great Leader," our focus shifts to the untold stories of the "little people" caught in the shadows of history.
The Story
The story follows a North Korean sleeper agent in Japan, fueled by unwavering ideological devotion. After years of waiting, he finally receives a mission from "The Organization." Expecting a heroic task, he is instead ordered to babysit the regime’s headstrong young heir for a clandestine day at a theme park.
Inside this "dream factory," the protagonist’s disdain for the epitome of capitalism begins to crack under its vibrant spectacle. Through encounters with the park’s diverse characters, he gradually realizes that this "wonderful land" is just another hierarchy. Whether it is the park or the motherland he swore to serve, both seem to establish themselves through delusions. As the grand narratives ebb and the manufactured joy fades, the agent realizes that what he truly treasures are concrete, ordinary individuals. Meanwhile, atop the park’s fairy-tale castle, the child realizes he doesn’t want the toys—he wants the intoxicating power of looking down upon the world.
