Rik Sowden Profile

A student of history and professional historical person, Rik has fifteen years experience recreating the past as a reenactor, historical interpreter, academic, and heritage professional.

As a mature student he completed a BA in War Studies; history but focused on the violent bits, where he won the General Sir Mike Jackson prize for being best at war. He has recently completed an MRes (Master of Research) thesis examining Nottingham’s civil and military administrations during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms (the British Civil War/English Civil Wars).

He can offer expertise in bringing history alive for schools, museums, film, and TV; his history mines are wide and deep, covering more than a thousand years from the late Viking or Anglo-Saxon age through to the Victorians, with specialities in healthcare and medicine; arms, armour, weapons and war; food and dining, medieval crime and punishment, Chartism and electoral reform, Viking navigation to royal Tudor cooking...
