Casting "Three Ghosts of Silvertown": This August 2026, The Newham Plays returns with its most daring and haunting production yet. "Three Ghosts of Silvertown" offers a kaleidoscopic, phantasmagorical exploration of East London, guided by three class-war spirits emerging from the impoverished streets of Silvertown at the dawn of the 20th century. Accompanied by a vibrant techno and house soundtrack, the production weaves past and present into a feverish mix of spoken word, movement, and dynamic theatrical energy. Featuring Newham Plays’ unique combination of seasoned professionals and emerging young talent, "Three Ghosts of Silvertown" becomes a visceral act of resistance, a ghostly revolt against the forces that shaped them.

A young docker at Victoria Dock, crushed to death by a falling bale of wool after being selected for work through the brutal daily "Call-On" system. Warm, humorous, and practical, Joe sits somewhere between Grace's political idealism and Lizzie's rage. He understands exploitation because he lived it, but his instinct is often to survive rather than theorise. Death has given him perspective, however, and as a ghost he increasingly recognises how the system that killed him continues to shape working-class lives. He serves as the play's emotional anchor: compassionate, grounded, and quietly radical.
