You Were Never Broken is a narrative short film exploring identity, self-acceptance and the lasting impact of the language we hear growing up.
The film follows our protagonist, a young person at the beginning of secondary school, as he quietly struggles to understand his sexuality in a world where casual comments, dismissive attitudes and everyday language make him feel there is something wrong with who he is.
Told through a blend of memory, reflection and emotional realism of our client, the story moves between the younger self and his older self, creating a tender conversation between fear and acceptance. At its heart, the film is about the pain of feeling different, the weight of internalised shame, and the healing power of finally realising you were never broken.
The project aims to speak to anyone who has ever felt alone, ashamed or afraid to be themselves, offering a message of reassurance, hope and acceptance. Yorkshire accent is preferred. - Dates
- Dates haven't been pencilled in yet so we can look to try work around availability where possible. The video needs to be ready for the beginning of September so we would look to film around beginning of August at the latest.
We will be filming in the surrounding area of Leeds/Cleckheaton. - Apply By

Young Man is at the beginning of secondary school, trying to understand who he is while desperately wanting to fit in. He is kind, thoughtful and sensitive, with a quiet inner world he does not yet know how to explain. On the outside, he tries to laugh along and act as though things do not affect him. Inside, he is carrying confusion, fear and shame caused by the language and attitudes he hears around him. Young Man is gay, but has not yet found the words, confidence or safety to understand what that means. This role requires a performer who can show vulnerability, emotional depth and restraint. We are looking for someone who can believably portray a younger version of the older character.
