Avital Raz Profile

Avital studied at The School of Visual Theatre in Jerusalem, before embarking on a 20-year career as a singer-songwriter and musician. After completing degrees in Western Classical music in Jerusalem, she relocated to Varanasi (India) where she studied the art of Dhrupad singing for 6 years under Prof. Ritwik Sanyal. She's released 7 albums of her own music. Her first solo theatre show My Jerusalem- derived from a song, toured widely.
In 2020, Journeys Festival commissioned Avital to create an accompanying feature-length documentary.
Your Jerusalem includes interviews with Palestinians, Israelis and UK people about issues raised in the show – Holocaust, Occupation, Gender Politics, Jerusalem and Politics of Division.
Second solo show now touring: Unnatural Cycles-A Ghost Story; Drawing on personal experiences, original new writing and film-making underpinned by a live looped soundscape exploring infertility, faith and what it means to bear the weight of inherited generational trauma.
